Reading expert Tim Shanahan has lots to offer on the Common Core.  Notice that he has a book recommendation to help guide us as we address writing with the new standards.  

New York City has sample tasks for each grade level 3-8 in writing, close reading, and math. They are very helpful as guidelines as you develop your own.
